Celebrating LAgonoy HeritageLagonoy has a rich cultural background celebrated through different events appertaining to art, music, religion and other traditional holidays. There are different types of events hosted in town every year. Some of them are well participated by both the locals and visitors from neighboring municipalities.
Majority of occasions and activities in town are organized by religious entities. They draw in hundreds of new visitors and devotees every year. During holy week between the months of March and April, there is a myriad of traditional activities happening around the municipality. The most illustrious event is Via Crucis held during Holy Tuesday at Sitio Canomoy, Barangay San Isidro Norte. The number of devotees engaged in this event increases every year. Via Crusis is a type of penitence where its believers carry a 20-foot cross made of several Bamboo trees bounded together. The cross is marched from the Saints Philip and James The Apostles Parish up to the mountains of Sitio Canomoy where it is erected at the summit. These events always bring together diverse crowds and are usually enjoyed by a large number of people. VIA CRUCISHOLY TUESDAY
During holy week season between the months of March and April, hundreds of Via Crucis devotees come to Lagonoy to offer their penitence by carrying a 20-foot cross made of several Bamboo trees bounded together. A holy mass is conducted and the cross is marched from the Saints Philip and James The Apostles Parish up to the mountains of Sitio Canomoy. Before ascending to the summit, devotees carrying the massive cross will have to cross the Lagonoy River. |
SAMHOD FESTIVALLAST WEEK OF APRIL
The local government of Lagonoy organizes the Samhod Festival every month of May. It's a week-long celebration comprised of activities that will sure give you a great deal of entertainment. This annual occasion in town is now on its 11th year and well known to neighboring municipalities in the district of Partido. |
PEÑAFRANCIA FESTIVAL IN LAGONOY1st WEEK OF SEPTEMBER
The feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia is a festivity acknowledged in the whole world but is not only celebrated in the city of Naga. Bicol Region and its municipalities manage their own celebration of the patron saint. Sakay Ni Ina in barangay San Isidro Norte is similar to Balaton Regatta in Lagonoy north coastal area where devotees parade the patron of Our Lady of Peñafrancia on the nearest body of water like rivers and seas. |
Barangay FiestaYEAR ROUND
Barangay Fiesta or feast is one of the main cultural events in the country, an influence that Filipinos acquired during the Spanish colonization. Each barangay in the municipality of Lagonoy has their own festivity that coincide with the day of their Patron Saint. At present, a great number of barangays in town named their own festivity based on a product that they highlight. An example of this is Nipa Festival in barangay Burabod, Lemonsito Festival in barangay San Roque, Dilis Festival in barangay Balaton and many more. Majority of the 38 Barangay Fiesta in town happen during the months of April and May. |
