remnants of the pastLagonoy is one of the oldest towns in the province of Camarines Sur and it used to be a great town encompassing the territories of its neighboring municipalities (more than 50% of the entire Partido). Over the years, several municipalities were carved-out from Lagonoy and began their own independent governments.
One of the famous historical sites in Lagonoy is the Saints Philip and James The Apostles Parish located in front of Lagonoy Municipal hall. It is a substantial part of the town’s history which still remains as a beautiful structure that brings you back in time. This church always catches the attention of visitors because of its weathered façade that makes it look genuinely old. A few yards away from the Saints Philip and James Parish is a beautiful ruins in barangay Santa Maria that is still unbeknownst to many locals. It is called the Belfry of Nahulugang Kampana and is the oldest church in Lagonoy waiting for you to explore. |

Ruins Of The Belfry of Nahulugang KampanaAn urban legend tells a story that the bell of Nahulugang Kampana is made of pure gold and its clang was so loud that it can be heard up to the town of Tigaon. When the Americans came to stop the Spanish colonization, the bell was lost in the Lagonoy River and has never been seen until these days.
